Merry Christmas from Our House to Yours: Part 3 - Stocking Hung by the Chimney with Care

If you celebrate Christmas and have a fireplace with mantelpiece, it MUST be decorated for the season. Mantelpieces are wonderful focal points for a seating area and especially when they are changed to suit the season.

My Christmas fireplace décor includes this cleverly-designed hand made candle holder which was a gift from my dear departed sister Kathleen. The glass pane with Christmas tree decal is interchangeable. It slides up and out of the grooved wood frame and can be replaced by a plain frosted pane or one with a decal of two birds.

I made the simple jingle bell mobile on the left. It has three velvet ribbons with tapered ends and bells sewn on. The top of the ribbons are sewn around a chop stick (waste not, want not!). The mobile has been suspended in several of our homes at Christmas time – over the front door, from various light fixtures – I always seem to find a place for it.

The whitewashed basket on the floor contains huge pinecones from a friend’s farm which I rolled in white paint to simulate snow on the tips. The big red velvet bow on the basket handle came from a live wreathe. You just can’t throw all the pretty trimmings in the trash, right?

Please join me tomorrow as we continue our holiday decorations tour.
