Continuing our virtual tour of my personal holiday wonderland from Saturday …
For me, it wouldn’t seem like Christmas without a Christmas tree. I turn the tree lights on every day before it’s even dark; but the tree is beautiful unlit as well. And then there are the ornaments …
Every one carries memories with it. There are the bread dough ornaments my son and I made when he was in grade school, the sequin and beaded ones my hubby and I made our first two Christmases when we were just starting out and couldn’t afford to buy ready made ones.
I make a few new ornaments almost every year; but I’ve broken a few as well. This year putting up the tree may be my record. I broke five glass ornaments! Let’s hope I do better taking it down.
Since our son is grown and gone, we don’t exchange gifts anymore. Instead of gaily-wrapped presents, I display my tin can collection under the tree along with a few colorful baskets.
I don’t even remember what came in each one – cookies and candies mostly. My favorites are the little cottage-shaped one on the left, the little Coke tin with handle like an old-fashioned milk bottle carrier next to it and the gold one toward the right.
This one is really special. It came from Germany filled with cookies and has a music box built into the lid which plays “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”. On that happy note, I’ll leave you for today.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who does that Eileen :-) As long as I'm home - my Christmas tree is lit!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear I'm not the only one too. It seems a bit extravagant but how much can two strings of LED lights increase my carbon footprint? ;-)
