Artist Profile: June Crawford - Part Two

[This Interview with Artist June Crawford started yesterday.]

How have you grown artistically?

I cannot recall a time in my life where I wasn't doing something creative. Even as a little thing, I made "frosting" out of baby powder for mud pies and then decorated them with flowers.

My grandmother taught me to embroider when I was very young. Before I was even in school I could wield a needle and thread.

A teacher, Mrs. Roland, taught me how to crochet, and to do calligraphy, and to love the act of creating itself.

I taught myself cross stitch, then needlepoint, and went on to design needlepoint for 20 years. I even got to design and stitch an ornament for the White House Christmas tree.

Right now, I am trying to learn to simply enjoy the act of being creative - without being judgmental of what I create.

Who is your biggest fan or supporter?

That's a really good question. I'm not sure I have a "biggest" fan. Maybe that will come about over time?

Where would you like to be artistically five years from now?

I would like to think of myself as a real artist rather than someone who creates stuff.

Even more, I'd love for others to see me as a real artist, not just someone who has a talent to do things they don't.
