Artist Profile: Deb Terry - Part One

I’d like to introduce you to my friend, mixed media artist Deb Terry. Take a few moments to peek into the world of another crafter/artist. I think you’ll find some ideas to help you grow in your art.

Title: “Hope” Ball (#1 of an unfinished set)
Media: wood, enamel

What media do you work in?
If it’s a craft and it doesn't involve sewing I’ll try it. LOL!
What brought you to your art? You know ever since turning 40 (I’m 42) I've been on a quest to “find myself”. A little corny I know, but you get so wrapped up in being everything for everyone in your life that sometimes you lose the essence of you.

And once the daughter grew up moved out, it was just hubby and me. I finished wallowing in the empty nest syndrome after a year or two and decided to find out who this 40-year old person was now.
I decided to address my weight and made lifestyle changes.

I decided to pursue my artwork and crafts that I enjoy. And it didn't matter if anyone else liked my artwork. It didn't have to be acceptable to anyone else but me. If I liked it then it was “good enough”.

I've always been a people pleaser and my self worth rested on their shoulders. Not a good place to be. So I do my artwork for me. It gives me a creative outlet.

Media: acrylic, enamel, crackle medium on canvas

How have you grown artistically?
Mainly just finishing what I start. It’s incredibly difficult for me to call a project finished – to say, “Okay this is the best I can do, it’s DONE.” As you can see I’ve actually finished a few projects over the last couple of years and it’s a good feeling.
