Help!
I have made decoupage plates using fabric and acrylic paint on the back of the fabric. My finished project has bubbles at the edge of the plate and the fabric is coming away. Is there anything I can do to fix those bubbles or hold the fabric down? I had planned on giving these as gifts. Other than that, the plates look great!
I painted the glass plate with Mod Podge and then applied the fabric, then coated it again with two coats of Mod Podge. Then I painted the back with acrylic paint and used Krylon sealant. Any helpful hint would be greatly appreciated.
I have actually tried using the Mod Podge where the fabric is coming away at the edge of the plate and used a clothes pin to hold it down. This seems to have helped. I thought I would try to trim the edge a little and then paint the rim.
Thanks for any suggestions!!!
Here is the response I gave about fixing these Bubbles in Decoupage.
Help me please!!
ReplyDeleteI am attempting to decoupage fabric to the back of a glass plate. The fabric and plate have been washed completely. I apply ModPodge to the back of plate, as well as the fabric. After applying the fabric to the plate, I applied more ModPodge to the fabric. Each layer of ModPodge is very thin. After completely dry, there are spots showing up on top of the fabric. Some areas are clear, but most of the plate has milky, shiny spots. I have left the plate dry for over 4 days and the spots do not fade.
I have done around 10 plates and this happens every time. What am I doing wrong?!
Thanks so much for your help!
Hi Bobbie,
ReplyDeleteI predict that the milky spots will eventually clear. Mod Podge never reaches a hard cure. Every time you moisten it or add another coat, areas you thought had cured will turn white again.
So patience is the key!
You'll also find some tips in this article on Decoupage.
Hope this helps!
Hi Eileen -
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your response.
I suppose I can say patience is not one of my virtues! However, I have left the plates cure for 4 or more days with just the Mod Podge on and the spots/areas did not clear up. It almost looks like the Mod Podge is crystalized in those areas. It has a shiny silver look to it.
Yesterday I tried Aleene's Instant Decoupage and the same thing is happening. The clear areas stay clear and the shiny areas just never seem to cure to clear.
Do you think I need to cure the plates in the Mod Podge stage for longer than 4 days?
Thank you so much for helping me with this issue as I am becoming completely frustrated!!
Boy, I empathize with your frustration. Been there; done that!
ReplyDeleteMod Podge cures in an average of 3 days but it depends on atmospheric conditions and thickness of coat.
Though each coat may be thin, as you add additional coats, it will take longer to cure.
I am using Liquitex media for decoupage more and more in place of Mod Podge for these very reasons.
Good luck. I'm crossing my fingers that, given more time, the Mod Podge will clear.
