Peeling Decoupage Table: The Backstory

Barbara wrote that she was having the same decoupage problems discussed in Decoupage: Avoid or Fix Peeling & Yellowing.

Barbara's creative aunt decoupaged a beautiful barrel head table over forty years ago. Apart from the wonderfully detailed decoupage images, the table features decorative scalloped edges on both shelves and delicately curved lower legs.

When the table came to Barbara 15 years ago, the finish was already crazing and crackling.

However, now the decoupage along with paint and finish coats are actually lifting off. The damage is worse on the legs and where the table has been exposed to sunlight.

But other parts are undamaged.
