Hi Eileen,Better late than never. The [Palettes of Keuka] website had still not been updated by the time the holidays rolled around and from there I was preparing and off to FL for a few months. This is the first I thought to go and look for it since I returned a few weeks ago.
The auction did not raise as much money as it had in the past. They speculate that those who are in a position to pay large sums for these are probably not looking to own more than one.
They will have to come up with a new twist. I'd love to tell you that my collage was well received but that wasn't the case. There were NO bids on it. When this happens the Chamber has someone out there who makes a small bid just to keep the process going. The piece is offered back to the artist.
The good news is that I really like the palette so it now hangs in my (spare bedroom) studio. I was disappointed but these things happen.
I thank you for the help you provided Eileen and I've enjoyed our emails.
Take care...
Dale
Hi Dale,
So nice to hear from you, though I'm sorry to hear the auction didn't fare better. I'm hearing that frequently from various art-related fundraisers I follow. It's a tough economy in which to raise money for charities.
A new twist seems a good idea to attract repeat and new bidders. I wonder if expanding the title would help. "Palettes and ... of Keuka" .... or if license might be granted to interpret the palettes more broadly. I'm thinking like adding a lip to the edge, gluing a bowl in the thumb hole and painting the palette to serve as a tray or hors d'oeuvres platter. I also wonder if anyone has thought of painting the other type of palette. Lol. That could be quite interesting. Just brainstorming. Hope you don't mind.
Thanks for sending the link. I viewed the Slideshow of the 2009 Palettes of Keuka. They really are lovely.
Better luck in 2010!
Regards,
Eileen
