From My In-Box

My In-BoxMy in-box has been overflowing. I've resolved to dedicate today and tomorrow to getting to those easy questions which always seem to fall to the bottom of the pile.

The questions are easy because I ultimately have to admit "I don't know". But that's what makes them so hard to handle – if you know what I mean.

Dear God, make me more humble. Help me to accept that I can't know everything ... and to freely admit it ... and to not have people think I'm ignoring them just because I don't want to admit my failings. Amen.

Readers, if you have a better answer for the questions which follow, please leave a comment.

If you were to make decoupage table mats which type of canvas would one use?

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Sally

Hi Sally,

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. I'm not sure what you have in mind, but I would be concerned that decoupaged images would crack and peel away from flexible canvas used as place mats.

My suggestion would be to use a tight-weave canvas and glue it to a cork backing. This would result in a rigid, non-slip place mat.

Regards,
Eileen

  1. Eileen,

I know just the material that is perfect for this project. It is called Studio Cloth and is available from US ArtQuest (www.usartquest.com).

It is ready to be cut, sewn, painted stamped or stenciled. It doesn't fray, the edges don't curl, it can be hand washed or wiped clean.

It is fantastic. I have seen it used to make placemats, table runners and even floor cloth.
