These "beauties" take a couple of weeks to dry out, so be sure to plan ahead.
Place them around the house or line them up on a window sill. Each one will be unique. Kids (of all ages) enjoy watching the creepy faces evolve.
Here are illustrated instructions for Halloween Apple Shrunken Heads.
Whoa...these are WAY cool! What a fun project. I'll be linking.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rachel. I'm so glad you like them :-)
ReplyDeleteYay--I had just seen this project in a craft book we checked out from the library. But then it was time to return them and I completely forgot to write down details. So this is a lifesaver. I think it's so cool & my boys will love it, thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou're most welcome!
ReplyDeletethis is really neat.. I would love to do this at a classroom Halloween party, but it is on the 26th of October. Do you think the kids will be able to take them home or keep them at school and see them evolve in time?.. also, will the pumpkin carving tools work with the apples?
ReplyDeleteHi "An",
ReplyDeleteYou could do it either way. Use the photos above as a guide. The two greenish photos in the middle were taken right after carving the face. The bottom photo was after one week of drying. The photo at the very top was after two and a half weeks.
If there is an available shelf with good air flow in the classroom, I think the kids would really enjoy watching the different forms that evolve from each others' ghoulish apple heads.
Pumpkin carving tools would be perfect.
