Why is it so hard to find pecan resin figurines to paint? There are no suppliers online. I'm considering learning to make them myself and sell them. Is it hard to do? Is there an art to getting really detailed pieces formed? Where do you find detailed molds to purchase?
Cindy
Hi Cindy,
I blogged about Online Distributors of Unpainted Resin Figurines several months ago. I just checked the post to make sure the companies still have stock. Yes!
However, if you are still interested in learning to mold pecan shell figurines so you can make and perhaps sell your own, I can summarize for you.
Pecan resin figurines are cold cast in silicone molds from ground pecan shells and resin. You can also resin cast figurines from cultured marble. The molds themselves can be bought or made by you.
You may be shocked at the price of small silicone collectible-type figurine molds. The reason is that you are buying, not just the mold itself but, the right to reproduce the artist's work as many times as you wish as well.
You can find everything you need – and everything you need to know – about resin casting at AMTEC Industries' website.
They even have a video CD on How to Make Your Own Silicone Molds.
Regards,
Eileen

ReplyDeleteHello, I'm interested in purchasing a Pecan (the nut) mold for a candle project. I hope you can help. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHi Florida,
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what help your asking. The Artful CRafter doesn't sell any craft supplies.
Do you just need help locating a pecan shaped candle mold?
