Learning Photography – One Frame at a Time

I was quite pleased when I downloaded my vacation photos from our Fourth of July family visit. I’m not much of a photographer, especially when it comes to people.

My DH bought me a high end Canon PowerShot A650 IS (perhaps in the hope that my photos for the website would improve – lol). I was just overwhelmed by all of the options and, being a non-techie, there is no way I could wade through the 200+ page manual written in tech-speak.

So I figured I’d give the camera a try and learn as I go. I’ve taken photos in the wrong mode (Tungsten or White Balance - I’m not quite sure what I did) and only learned after the fact that they all had a terrible blue cast which even Photoshop couldn’t remove.

I’ve taken video when I meant to take still shots and don’t even know where all that stuff went. How do I view it? Can I download it? I guess I really need a class.

Anyway, this is why I was so pleased that I actually got a lot of great pictures from our week away. I framed my shots well, made sure the light was behind me or if not possible, shot from above to capture my subject against a darker background.

I’m so encouraged by my mini-success that I’ve tucked my compact Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S650 into my purse so I can catch special moments when I’m on-the-go.

The filmstrip I used to display my photos above was created by Scrap Girls designer Angie Briggs.
