Playing in Photoshop

Las Estrellitas BannerLast Thursday, I mentioned a customer who recently bought a B&B and has asked me to design a brochure for it. The B&B happens to be in Mexico on the shores of Lake Chapala. Isn't that exciting? They say the area has the world’s perfect climate.

Lorraine e-mailed me photos and I've been hard at work in Adobe Photoshop. This assignment is what triggered Saturday's blog about Selling Your Graphic Designs.

Since I own tons of wonderful graphic products from Scrap Girls, I kept thinking of certain brushes or styles or actions which I might employ in this brochure. But since I didn't buy the commercially licensed versions, I can't do that.

It could be tempting ... or I can view it as an incentive to learn how to create my own. The banner and logo above were done using nothing but Lorraine’s photo of the lake and the tools found in Photoshop.

The star is a Photoshop custom shape which I warped and to which I added a bevel and drop shadow; then masked to erase the portion of the star that is "hooked" over the "E". The "E" is Edwardian Script also found in Photoshop, but warped and beveled.
