Can You Safely Decoupage a Trivet?

Dear Artful Crafter,

I am keen to decoupage some cork mats and would like to know if once they are finished it would be safe to put hot pans on them or will this damage the surface of the mat?

Thank you for any advice.

Yes, I'm afraid that heat would damage the decoupaged surface. I don't know of any decoupage medium that can stand the heat. Even the two-part epoxies designed for table and bar tops warn against placing hot items on the cured finish.

But their are media not specifically designed for decoupage that might work. Read Heat Resistant Coatings for Decoupage.
