Make Aheads to Sell• Criss-Cross Coasters are clever and very inexpensive to make. They slip over a stemmed glass base (like a wine glass) or can be used flat as a regular coaster. They can be made from small donated scraps of fabric.
• Bag Bags help reuse plastic bags and keep them out of landfills. This is a simple tube of fabric with elastic top and bottom and a loop for hanging. The plastic bags are stuffed in top and pulled out the bottom as needed. I haven’t done a pattern for this, but I can send a photo. If you like the idea, I’ll write up directions.
• “Green” Bags can be made from an old t-shirt.
• Crayon Scrap Cards give old crayons and crayon scraps a new life.
• Decorative Fabric Cases for iPads, cell phones, etc. are predicted to be a big craft trend this year.
• Rolling Bunnies would be fun if the fundraiser is within the next couple of months.
As I look over this list, I see a lot of the work leading up to the big day which could be done largely by students: the money-saving project of course; but also some of the make-ahead crafts and assembling the craft kits.
As examples of where the profit would be, I was selling bag bags for $3 each 7 years ago. They cost me 40 cents apiece to make. If all materials are donated …
I’ll stop here to give you time to mull this all over. This list could be extended ad infinitum.
Lets’s see what The Artful Crafter readers can come up with!
