How to Create Fine Art with Photoshop

Now, I’m not saying my example is fine art; but I’m pretty pleased with my first attempt at masking and compositing different images; then using textures and blending modes in Photoshop to create something exceptional.

To me, this art form looks like the digital equivalent of a mixed media piece.

Photoshop ArtMy Huichol Beaded Iguana composite was done as homework for a free 10-hour online course taught by photographer/digital artist extraordinaire Doug Landreth. The course was offered by CreativeLive.com.

We were to take a photo of a single item to represent the area where we live. There were people from all around the world online for the webinar. So the results were very interesting and multi-cultural.

The Huichol Indians are native to the mountains north of our home in Jalisco, Mexico. Their bead art is exquisite, and more so because it is integral to their religious beliefs.

I think I’ve found my medium! At least for now. There are so many art and craft forms that I enjoy, but right now, I’m just enamored of the creative Photoshop techniques Doug taught this past weekend.

Huichol Beaded IguanaThis is the photo I started with.

I submitted the digital composite for June’s final creativity prompt at A Creative Dream as well. I really wanted to go out on a high note. June has been so kind to inspire and challenge us over the past year. I tried some things I otherwise wouldn’t have attempted.

I’m one who really responds to deadlines and challenges. So thanks a bazillion, June. It’s been a fun year.

You can see some of Doug Landreth’s Photo Art on the Photomorphis Facebook page.

I admire you so much with all of the digital art you are creating Eileen, regardless of how much I try to get there, I just get frustrated and give it up. Photoshop is simply not my forte, but I love getting to admire yours!

June, remember the song, "We belong to a mutu-aaaal admiration society."

You know how much I love your artistic doodles ... and your dolls ... and that village charm bracelet ...

Thank you for the compliment ;-)

I REALLY am going to have to sit down with Photoshop and figure out how to do this... I still love this piece!

This truly looks like a physical piece, Eileen! Fantastic job. Photoshop is a wonderful tool, but it certainly doesn't do all the work for you, no matter what anyone says :-)
