Don’t throw those tins away! Coffee cans and other food tins make terrific and practical recycled items.
Empty food tins can be decorated as little or as much as you like. I love ribbon and trims, so this was a perfect project to use up short scraps, making this project even more eco-nomical and -logical.
This can would be perfect for all your paper cutting scissors. It would also work for paint brushes, colored pencils and pens or even kitchen utensils.
Supplies:
• Any size coffee can (save the plastic lid for another project)
• Various colors and widths of ribbon and decorative trim
• Gloss black spray paint or color of your choice
• Four 1-inch wood dowel caps
• 5 and 10 mm pom-poms – optional
• Delta Ceramcoat black acrylic paint or color of your choice
• Paint brush
• Delta Ceramcoat water based varnish
• Scissors
• Measuring tape or ruler
• Flat back rhinestones – optional
• E6000 Industrial Strength Craft Glue
• Aleene’s Clear Gel Tacky Glue
• Dritz Fray Check
Please come back for the Recycled Coffee Can Directions tomorrow.

You know, my "work" table with all my creative stuff has more than a few cans on it holding brushes, hole punches, "poking" sticks (the ones I use to turn things and poke stuffing into things), pens, pencils... you get the idea. I hadn't thought of actually decorating them... great idea!
I think I saw this on a tee shirt: "I love my life. That's why I decorate it." lol.
My coffee cans are plastic now. LOL! At the moment i'am using them as 'paint cans' while i'm painting the outside of the house as they are easier to handle than the huge 5 gallon container.
When this is over though (please let it be over some day soon) i could always use that 'Fusion' spray paint that bonds to plastic to decorate them. I always thought to decorate them and use them at Christmas to give cookies as gifts.
At the moment i'm using clay pots to hold my pens , pencils and paintbrushes......love your idea!
Great post Eileen! I save empty jars for my craft supplies, but I never thought of decorating them- or something like coffee cans!
Ya know what amazes me? Sometimes it's the most mundane ideas that generate the most interest. Thanks, guys!
Just a quick note to let you know that a link to this post will be placed on CraftCrave today [01 Apr 01:00am GMT]. Thanks, Maria
