Options for Printing Greeting Cards on Glossy Photo Paper

Botanical Print Note CardsNew to this! I want to print my photographs onto FOLDED CARDS.

Can you get gloss fronted cards with the internal side allowing someone to write in?

What are they called and do you sell them or who would I contact?

Hi Anthony,

You can buy pre-scored cards online or at your local copy or office center.

There are two things you should know if you want to buy pre-scored cards:

1. The options of paper weight, finish and card size will be limited; and
2. You’ll pay a premium for the pre-scoring.

Since you’re looking for a special glossy finish, why don’t you do what most card crafters do and score your own cards?

It’s really very easy and you don’t need a lot of expensive equipment. Here’s an article on Greeting Card Folding Techniques.

If you want professional-quality hinge scores, a scoring board like the Scor-It is not that expensive.

Printing Cards on Photo Paper

There are a couple of ways to go to print your cards on glossy photo paper. Photo paper tends to be a little pricey.

To keep costs down, consider printing your photos, cutting them to size and attaching them to a card made of heavyweight card stock as I did for these 3-D Botanical Print Note Cards.

If you want the entire card to be on photo paper, be sure you choose photo paper that is blank on both sides and of card stock weight (at least 220 grams per square meter). Many photo papers have a company logo watermarked all across the non-glossy side.

Ilford Galerie Smooth Glossy Inkjet Photo Paper weighs 250g and is glossy on one side only (which is advantageous if you want to be able to handwrite a message inside).

HP Color Laser Glossy Photo Paper
weighs 220g and is glossy on both sides.

Regards,
Eileen

One of the things I really like about printing out a photo and attaching it to a card is that I think people are more like to save the photo...just peel it off and tack it to your bulletin board :-)

I agree with Cyndi. I have several photos from an photographer that I adore from cards that I have framed and sprinkled around the house.

I like the idea of a photo also, for the reasons Cyndi said. I like to give and receive those types of cards.

Personal photos are great, but so are your own works of art and doodles. I treasure the ones that are truly handmade by an artist I admire - like both of you ;-), Cyndi and June.

Hi, Cherie. We seem to have a consensus here. Photo cards are widely appreciated.
