The swirls are so smoothly drawn and move the eye around the scene. The shapes are suggestive and open to interpretation. The color scheme and balance are very appealing.
I want to mount and hang it; so I went looking for a frame. I found the perfect one at Michael’s. It’s a hanging collage frame that you can slip a whole bunch of small images into and change them out from time to time.
After I found the frame, I also picked up some watercolor pencils and drawing paper – thinking I could use June’s doodles, perhaps some photos and then a few doodles of my own to fill all the slots.
I got carried away and didn’t leave any white space. My shapes are too representational. It’s not well balanced and my swirls are abominable.
I guess I have trouble staying in my right mind. Lol.
I saw the doodle in my side bar and thought...how the heck did that get there...I'm so glad you like it...and I think yours is great as well. Put it up for a couple of days an look at it again, I find mine almost always look better when I do that.
ReplyDeleteOf course you can doodle! Don't expect yours to look like someone else's though :-) Like anything else, it takes a certain amount of practice...in this case, practice to turn off the "I'm drawing" critic.
ReplyDeleteNope, June, it didn't work.
ReplyDeleteI doodled it several days ago and I still don't like mine. But at least I know what I don't like about it so I can improve ;-)
Thank you for the inspiration!
Thank you, Cyndi.
ReplyDeleteOkay, so I need to stay in my right (creative) mind and turn off my inner "I'm drawing" critic.
Is there a switch somewhere for that? lol.
Making art is not about the end result, it's about the journey. Your art is beautiful. It is unique like you. Your art will never be the same as someone else's art. That's truly the best thing about it.
ReplyDeleteTry not to judge the outcome or judge yourself while you're doing it, just enjoy the moment of allowing yourself to be an artist. That's the point.
Love
Madge
Ditto on what Cyndi L said. No two diddles are the same. LOL. Thanks for sharing. Connie
ReplyDeleteMadge,
ReplyDeleteThat's lovely. Thank you so much. I guess I need blinders for that inner critic. lol.
Thank you, Connie. I'm blown away by all the encouraging words here.
ReplyDeleteLet me chime in here and say I LOVE YOUR DOODLE. And I can see why June's inspired you. I want to try this. Love your colors and the design is unique. Can't wait to see your next one. Be sure to post it. Miss you so much Eileen.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Shaaron. I'm getting better. Here's my 2nd attempt.
ReplyDeleteMe too :-/
I think your doodle came out great. Doodling isn't as easy as one would think. I even bought a book to learn how a while back. Like you, i can draw, but not doodle. I'm too rigid, for doodling, too much into realism.
ReplyDeleteSo your not alone in the I can draw, but I can't doodle category :) They make it sounds so casual "doodling" like something we all did on our folders in high school to keep from falling asleep during boring classes. But it really is much much more an art then it sounds.
Thank you, LissC. You're right. I have a new appreciation for the art of doodling.
ReplyDeleteThe kind of doodling we all did on our notebooks was not always artistic. That wasn't the point. So this new art form is completely different
I'm finding it a challenge to have a doodle come out artistically balanced without a sketch or page map to go by.
