High Heel Shoemaking Design and Supplies

Extreme high heels have complex design and engineering requirements. Finding supplies to make your own may not be easy.

High Heel ShankHey,

I run my own accessories design company and I am wanting to branch into shoe making. I know the process and I am ready to start whipping out new and exciting shoes for my line. However I can’t find "heels" anywhere!!

I don’t know where to even begin looking. But I need to know either where I can purchase wooden heels so that I can complete my shoes … and not 2-inchers ...TALL 4 to 6-inch heels....

Any help or advice is appreciated.

Thanks!
Megan

    Hi All!

My sister is getting married in a year and I wanted to make her wedding shoes. I wanted to make high heels and was wondering if anyone can help me with a process. I have about 150 pairs of shoes and would have to say finding different shoes are my passion and would love to make hers and my own. Can anyone help?

I can no longer wear heeled shoes due to bad knee. I would like to customize shoes by putting 2 inches platform soles on my purhased flats, any idea how I do that?

  7. Hi "An",

I'm afraid you can't easily make flats into 2-inch platforms.

Any non-flat shoe must have stiff arch support.

Take a high-heeled shoe and try to flex it with your hands. Notice that it bends only at the toe.

    Sorry ;-(

  8. "An",

I had another thought. How about turning your flats in wedges? The sole on a wedge is a fairly straight incline.

  9. Hello!
I can no longer wear pumps with thin heels. I have several pairs of kitten-heeled shoes I would love to keep. I don't want to remove the heels completely to wear them as flats. Is there a way to install chunkier heels over the existent ones to make my shoes more stable while keeping the kitten heel height? If not, where csn I buy low block heels or wedges to have them installed on my shoes? Less than two inches will do. Thanks. :-)

  10. Hi Gata,

First, you couldn't just take the kitten heels off and wear them as flats (see my answer to "An" earlier). The sole of a "high" heel (any height) is not flexible; only the toe box flexes. In other words: take the kitten heel off and you won't be left with a flat shoe.

You would need real shoemaker's skills and experience to add something around the existing kitten heel for more support. It's better, really, to remove the heel and begin anew.

The easiest, quickest redo for your kitten heels is to take them to a shoemaker. This is not a simple repair job; but rather a design challenge.

The shoemaker will need to find or craft a heel that matches the rest of the shoe.

On kitten heels, a wedge or a thin but wider low heel would work aesthetically.
