Make this elegant gift bag out of velvet you emboss yourself. This technique was new to me and I think it’s really clever. Thanks to my Christmas Elf, Shaaron, for these directions!Supplies:
½ to 1 yard of Rayon or Silk Velvet – depending on number and size of bags you will be making (Velvets made from acetate or nylon won't hold the embossed shape.)
Matching Thread
Sewing machine
Rubber Stamp (example is from Rubber Stamped, Star with a Swirl)
Steam Iron
Spray Bottle filled with water
Beaded Fringe to fit across the bottom of the bag
6-10” of Silver or Gold Cording
Silver or Gold Charms of your choice – example shows silver tone crosses
Holiday Gift Tag for each bag or make your own from card stock
Instructions:
Cut two pieces of velvet to desired size. Example is approximately 8” x 6”.
Emboss the velvet. Note: you may need to trim away any excess rubber from the design on the stamp as I have done here. Do this around the entire design. This makes for a clean stamped impression.
Emboss each piece separately to achieve desired look. Preheat iron to the highest steam setting. Place stamp on ironing board. Lay velvet right side down atop stamp. Spray fabric with water. Press down firmly with the iron and hold for 10 to 15 seconds. Repeat until you have completed your pattern.

Cute. It reminded me of an evenning gown at first!
Gosh, now that you mention it ... it reminds me of my bridesmaids' gown!
We had a winter wedding in the cold north (Dec. 30). My bridesmaids wore long velvet empire waist gowns in just that shade of maroon. :-)
