Service with a Smile :-)

I bought your panadiere basket pattern, but could you tell me if it is the knitting plastic canvas that is used to stiffen it or, if not, what is it so I can purchase some before the pattern comes in?

Tammy

Panadiere Fabric Bread Basket

Hi Tammy,

You should already have the pattern since it is a downloadable file we send you over the Internet.

You will see that, to give body to the panadiere I use plastic report covers which can be purchased in an office supply store. However, I make dozens of these baskets at a time, so I don't mind buying a package of 100 report covers.

If you would not have use for so many plastic covers, your idea of plastic canvas made for needlepoint and embroidery would work fine. Very clever! You can also use very thin Masonite if you want a basket with firmer sides.

Just make sure you use something that will stand up to cleaning, whether you run it through the wash machine (plastic) or wipe it with a damp cloth (Masonite).

I hope you enjoy the pattern!

Do you make homemade shelf liner too? I'm moving soon and dread buying the stuff... I don't like the contact paper stuff, but the kind that just sits in your drawer. I was wondering if anyone has tried using fabric for this purpose.

  3. Peggy, I don't like the Contac paper either. It is so hard to work with and even harder to remove.

I personally like the patterned paper with plastic coating which makes it easy to wipe clean.

But there's surely no reason why you can't line drawers with fabric. To keep it from wrinkling, I would cut to size; run a line of stick glue all around the drawer's perimeter; and lay the fabric in place. It would be easy to strip off and throw in the wash machine for cleaning.
