I took on a Scrap Girls challenge to scraplift one of designer Paula Wright's Layouts. I chose one titled "I Scrap Because" and twisted that to “Al Hikes Because”. I had just received 25 photos from our friend Al of his recent hike in Temperance State Park, Minnesota. I sent back this gift memento of his hike.Al is of the Wilson clan and the vertical strip on the left of my layout is the Wilson tartan.
The journaling says:
“Al hikes because he can.
He hikes for the beauty, the serenity
and sometimes for the solitude.
He hiked the arduous 2175-mile
Appalachian trail in one season.
No mean feat for someone
half his age.
This year it’s the 22-mile
Temperance State Park trail
which runs along the North
Shore of Lake Superior - a
mere ‘walk in the park’.
I would say it’s the hardy
Scot in him. Al would say,
‘Aaay laddie!’”
and on the crumpled journal strip, a quote I found on the Park’s website …
“The Temperance River was said to be the only river
along the North Shore without a sand ‘bar’
at its mouth; hence the name.” Cute.
This layout was done in Adobe Photoshop. I used Segoe Script and Georgia fonts and Scrap Girls products from the following talented graphic designers: Melissa Renfro, Valerie Randall, Keri Schueller, Shalae Tippetts and Thao Cosgrove.
The composite photo frame, the crumpled scrap of journal paper and the stitched tear strip were all gifts from Scrap Girls that came in the newsletters; but you can also find the freebies by clicking on the Freebie button at ScrapGirls.com
P.S. Scrap Girls is running a sale which ends tomorrow midnight. Almost everything in the boutique is 18.8% off!
P.P.S. Here's another example of a layout celebrating a major accomplishment.

Thanks Cyndi. That means a lot coming from you.
I created the background paper from one of Al's photos using techniques I learned on Layers Upon Layers.
Nice! I hope Al likes it. I'm sure he will.
Beautiful, Eileen. You've done a marvelous job creating this memory jotter for Al.
