Jewelry Trends

Handmade beaded jewelry is one of the fastest-growing craft trends in the United States. According to Terri Ouellette, spokesperson for the international Craft and Hobby Association “Visit any bead aisle in any craft store, and you’ll see the inventory is huge and getting larger all the time … With a minimal investment, you can start out small and gradually increase your inventory of beads, skill level and involvement – all at your own pace”

If you want to make beaded jewelry for profit, you will need to be very discerning. The fact that beaded jewelry is the fastest-growing craft trend means it is the one where you will find the most competition.

I don’t want to dissuade you but only to advise you – your work will need to stand out from the (huge) crowd. Many of the techniques and tools you need for beaded jewelry will continue to serve you well if you decide to move up to more advanced or higher end jewelry making such as
wire sculpture or working and soldering fine metals.

Tomorrow I’ll let you in one some sales trends for beaded jewelry that can help you get off on the right foot with your handmade jewelry.
